It Begins - My First Book Blog Post

WELCOME TO MY BOOK BLOG

Today marks the beginning. The start of a journey shared. Welcome to my book blog! My hope is that this will serve as a one-stop shop for book reviews, recommendations, lists, and all that fun stuff!

I'm a little nervous so bear with me! Today I have taken a leap of faith into the land of blogging. There are so many fantastic blogs and content out there for book lovers, that it feels like an impossible task. Every blogging journey starts with a post, like this one. It's funny and engaging and people want to know more, it's going well!

As a previously lapsed reader, I am making up for lost time. I gobble up books after being starved of their joy for most of the last 20 (probably more!) years. My New Year resolution in 2023 was to make time for reading again and well, here I am, over 100 books in since then and constantly on the lookout for more. My local library is my haven and my travels are nearly always accompanied by a visit to a local bookstore or library. It's amazing how a passion for something can return so quickly, like an old friend.

When I was a youngster, up to my early teens, I was an avid reader. My favourite book was Goodnight Mister Tom, and this was the first book I reached for when I decided to pick up reading once more. Reading it as an adult, exploring the familiar characters and heartbreak as Willie, a young evacuee from London during World War Two, learns love, family, and friendship in his new home, felt familiar yet raw. It remains one of my most treasured stories, one that I know I will go back to and recommend time and time again. I've done an in-depth review of this classic children's book, you can read it here.

My tastes are eclectic with very little rhyme or reason. I'll grab a book because the cover is interesting, the title seems fun, or there's just enough blurb to hook me. I enjoy feeling the stories' emotions and enjoy books that weave their stories and characters intricately, and make me feel fully immersed. Still, I balance that with light, quick, fast-paced stories (often thrillers) that cleanse my palette before I feel ready for a new immersive rollercoaster.

If you're still reading, thank you! Today is just for introductions, but expect to see book reviews, lists, general literary musings, and everything in between over the coming weeks and months!
